Great views today

The hobbit

Just finished the hobbit, the book, and I quite liked it, same style of course as the lord of the rings but more concise. Now I just have to find a cinema that shows the original version of the film and not the French dubbed one...

And some christmas pics

GoPro and Fischer Hybrid first day out

Went out skiing today to try my new Fischer Hybrid skis as well as my new GoPro. As I've not yet got the chesty harness from it I've put a helmet mount on my old helmet (do not want to ruin the new one) and went out for a bit with Ben.
I used the skis in the rocker mode today because the snow was really heavy and it was getting a bit bumpy and they seem really good. I need to try them on hardpacked piste as well to get a good idea of their versatility though. The camera is getting some good video and hopefully it'll get to come out for some off piste skiing soon as well (once my knee is better and the snowpack is more stable).

Swedish Christmas was celebrated yesterday and we had a nice lunch/dinner followed by Donald duck, and Christmas presents. I must have been very nice this year as I got very nice presents. Thank you Ross, Ben, my parents, Ross parents and grandma.
Can't wait to try it all!
And I got to pick up my new Fischer skis today - like a bonus present!

Merry christmas

Swedish Christmas starts today so I had some things to do last night in order to get a proper Christmas breakfast today, baking vörtbröd - a bread made with spices and beer, and baking the Christmas ham. I did get it all ready and today I had a proper Christmas breakfast which included normal breakfast and a sandwich with vörtbröd anf Christmas ham while watching the last Christmas calender episode on svt play.

The early bird catches the worm, or wake up early and get powder snow

So, I got up quite early and headed out skiing and joined all the people going up towards the glacier, for reasons unknown, no one decided to go over to the vanoise side and I got fresh tracks (on the slope) in nice 20cm powder! Since I'm not doing proper off piste yet because of my knee this was a great substitute, and then I got to practice leaving my skis in the fall line and working with acceleration and deceleration as I went in and out of soft snow. This may have been the best morning so far this season. Started my work weekend today and then it's Christmas! Very excited!

Swedish meatballs

So to prepare for Christmas on Monday it was time to make the meatballs, with my dad's recipe of course. I think almost every family in Sweden have their own recipe... And since my friend Kate went to Ikea last week I got a Christmas ham as well, just need to be defrosted and baked! Bring on Christmas - and this will be the first year in ages that I'm not working as well :-)

So this week I've been skiing and been to the gym to keep training for the re-exam that I hope to get and just to get my knee back in order as well of course. Tons of snow here at the moment, we had one day of nice weather, yesterday, and now it's back to snowing again!

Ross brought back a tree the other day and even though it is a little bit early it has now been put up and decorated.

Gingerbread house

Put together the gingerbread house I got at IKEA some time ago, Ross decorated with smarties as I spritzed on the frosting. The house even came with your standard Ikea how to build manual, which I of course did not use, being an experienced gingerbread house builder ;-)

The fingers

A photo taken with my new lens.

St Lucia

Woke up this morning and watched the Lucia show on Svt Play followed by a nice breakfast including both "lussekatter" (saffron buns) and pepparkakor (gingerbread biscuits) before heading out skiing.

Cold day out skiing

Had a good ski today, great snow and Ben's first day out. It was really cold though so time to head back was when my nose started going white... Hope the rest of the season will continue in the same way.

First Ski of the Season

First ski for this winter season, and first ski since knee cap dislocation. Only did a few runs on piste but knee seems ok which is the most important thing. First weekend at work has also been done and the Spanish that have been taking over Tignes for the past week are leaving. Also got to try my new helmet, thanks mom and dad (birthday present) and very happy with it.

Been back in tignes for a few days now and looking forward to starting skiing again, went to see the physio today and everything seems to be on track. Just need to get my work contract so I can get ski and gym pass. It's dumping at the moment about 10 snow plows have gone past the past 5 mins. Looks like it's going to be a good season!

Went to see the hairdresser here today to get a haircut and some new highlights, haven't cut my hair aibcee may so it was overdue. You can't even tell they cut off 5cm.. Anyway, here's the result

Fischer Hybrid Tester

Just got an email from Fischer saying that I've been chosen to test the new Hybrid ski, this is the thing I signed up for on facebook a while back and was trying to get votes for and it paid off - Very excited to get to test some new skis this season! I've sent them the details they needed back so waiting for more information on the testing process and where to get the skis from now.

Sweden update

I've not been very active posting here since I got to Sweden, but that's probably a good thing, doing some other stuff instead. I've so far seen friends and have been with my mother for some birthday shopping, for myself. It does mean that I won't be surprised on the day but I'm getting some new gear (I'll tell you later when I actually get the stuff) and other things that I really want so it'll be nice, and getting to actually celebrate with almost all of my family at the same time hasn't happened for a long time, so really looking forward to it! The gingerbread biscuit making has been rescheduled and I can therefore bring some back to Tignes with me which is really nice, and we've been testing new glögg flavours to see if there is any that I would like to bring back with me. And I got some Christmas decorations - Ross already thinks I'm going a bit crazy but I don't think that he's still realized how Swedes decorate their houses befor…

Being a Danish ski instructor

Just saw this video, about the Danish ski instructing courses. The footage is from the course in the spring when I got my BSI2 and my group is featured in the start of the video =) Video is from

Arrived in Sweden

Flight to Copenhagen this morning was really quick and then got in the car with my dad and drove to Sweden and home, right now enjoying a fire and the early evening (that started around 16). Don't have a lot of plans yet but trying to persuade my dad to reschedule the gingerbread biscuit making so that it's when I'm still here.

Billy's vanilla vanilla cupcakes

So had a few things to do today as I'm going back to Sweden to visit family and friends tomorrow, but I did have time to make cupcakes, found this recipe on the Martha stewart website, there's some good stuff on it, and because of the name I couldn't resist!

Christmas decorations

Tignes has once again managed to choose even uglier Christmas decorations than last year, this year they look like those Russian wooden dolls that you can take apart...

Banana cypcakes with honey cinnamon frosting

Felt like baking today and found this recipe from Martha Stewart. Delicious! Will maybe use a little bit less cinnamon next time, a bit too cinnamonny for me but so easy to do so will be doing variations of this!

Cross country

First cross country skiing for the season, only did one short lap around the golf course to try if it worked with the knee and it wasn't too bad, but not great in the climbs where you'd normally want to go out with the skis.. It was good to try though, and hopefully when I'm back from Sweden at the end of Nov the tracks should be better too.

Highland cattle

Really felt like doing some photoshopping today and with some inspiration from a course I've taken before, I decided to go for "Highland cattle" the name was just too good, so I had to do it, even though it was an easy job of changing blending modes and some painting. Can you see the second element that I added? The first one is pretty obvious and is supposedly the "unofficial" flag of the Scottish highlands. Does anyone know if it actually is? Ross didn't know. I would also like it noted that the photo was taken in Scotland last year, so it's all Scottish this time.

Fisher hybrid skis

Signed up for this thing on facebook where I've got a chance to try some Fischer skis this winter so figured it couldn't hurt to share it here as well. The thing is you need people voting for you to get to try the skis so if you have facebook, and the time, I would really appreciate it if you voted for me on Fischer Hybrid - Linda Stridh

And some even more positive news from the physio

Today I got to start doing more proper stuff, biking and balance board and some massage. The best thing is that I will hopefully get to try skiing this weekend - maybe only for half an hour or so, but really happy about it. Also not to wear knee brace normally but only when doing sports! In other positive news, I finally went to get my second pair of test contact lenses yesterday and put them in this morning, noy worn them for long but I can tell they're already less noticeable and therefore better than the first pair.

Just had physio and more progress has been made, got to start biking with resistance and will get to start proper muscle training with balance board and stuff on Wednesday. Very happy that I can feel a constant progress, it really helps with the motivation for the winter.

The Killers

Last night it was time for the killers concert at the NEC arena in Birmingham. Really good concert, we were at the lowest seats so no one in front which was really good once it got going a bit and people started standing up. The show was a good mix of songs from the new album and the hits from the older ones. Brought back some memories from the NY concert in 2007. So happy that Ross has been looking out for concert dates, because he knows how much I've been wanting to go see them again, and that we were able to fit it in in our tight schedule.

London ski show

Yesterday we went to the ski show in London, Ross was there for work but I had some time to just walk around and look at things, they even had real penguins and st Bernard dogs, you could try curling, roller skis and lots more. Got to see a few people I know so it was a good afternoon.
Beitostølen also had a stand so I got to see Neta and TH and we went out for dinner at a Thai place after as well. Really good food and great to catch up.

On the way to the UK

Finished my last day at work yesterday and then we quickly got in the car to start the trip to the UK. Drove all night yesterday and then got a hotel at 3am for a few hours of proper sleep and now we're in the queue, waiting to board the ferry to Dover. Plan for the day is to go to the ski show in London before heading towards Birmingham. Really looking forward to the ski show as Neta is going to be there representing Norway :-)

Just back home from my physio session, and I got to go in the bike - without resistance but still, its progress :-) Tomorrow is my last day at work and then were leaving for the UK.

Flights booked

Booked flights last night, had randomly searched to see at about what price they were and found a very cheap return flight to Copenhagen, of course adding a bag made it a little bit more but still about half price of what it normally is, apparently you should book these things 16 days in advance! Going to Sweden from the 14th to the 28th of November, 2 weeks, as a pre-season holiday. And I'll almost be home for my birthday so might even try to organise something with my twin brother, we've noy celebrated together for years ( probably mainly because of me living abroad)
Really looking forward to seeing everyone!

Vegan muffins and essay writing

Today's my first day off this week, but it's been a good one, been very efficient, it did help getting 1h of extra sleep and still getting up at a reasonable time because of the change to winter time.
Started out having breakfast whilst watching the men's gs race, then running the breadmaker, dishwasher and washing machine at the same time - triple efficiency!
I've also managed to finish my essay, 14 pages on sustainable tourism and bake vegan muffins. We haven't done a food shop in a while so had no eggs, but apparently you can still make quite tasty muffins!Since it's the weekend I've had a break from physio but I've practiced my walk and bending the knee so hoping to get to go on the bike tomorrow. It's been snowing since last night so really want to get back on my skis asap...

The knee report

I've had 4 sessions of physio week and feel that I'm making some progress, movement is getting better and on my third session we started training the leg muscle as well, and my walk is getting better too. I'm now allowed to walk in the house without a knee brace. Quite a long way from Monday morning's full leg cast... I've also just finished the anti-inflammatories so will see how the knee will deal with more activity now.

Started physiotherapy

Started physiotherapy yesterday and going again today. Feels good to have started and getting to walk a bit again.. I'll give more of an update when I know more about timings ans whatnot.

Went to see the local doctor in Tignes today and very happy with the results, he, like me, thought a full cast was just outrageous and cut it off, prescribed me a new knee brace, im up to 5 in my collection of supports and braces now, as well as physiotherapy that I'm supposed to start right away, so going to try to sort that tomorrow. Will see what physio says but if I don't have to wait 3 weeks to start then you'd think that recovery could be a bit quicker too...

Hintertux pics

And here are some pics from the week

Not quite the week in Hintertux I expected

So, had a good start of the week and passed the teaching exam Thursday, but then unfortunately on the Friday I managed to dislocate my kneecap whilst warming up for the exam in the bumps. Got taken down with piste basher and lifts and got to see a doctor. Much to my surprise they put my leg in a full cast - from thigh to foot. But I did at least pass my video analysis and theoretical exam in the evening, so only the technical left, but still a bit frustrating considering I had hoped to get it done. Afterwards it's been a bit of a struggle as the insurance company messed up flights and I ended up returning in the car... This morning's adventures included putting cling film on my whole leg to finally shower and now I have to wait til tomorrow to ser what's going to happen with the cast anf everything. I'm of course hoping it'll come off and maybe to get a knee brace instead...

Battle born

Got the killers album down in bourg today, time to learn all songs properly before the concert in Nov!

The killers

So excited! My very thoughtful boyfriend have been looking out for killers concerts we can go to and we got tickets today for when they play in Birmingham on the 1st of November, so right after I finish my job contract here.. Yay! Super happy now :-D

Contact lenses

Was down in bourg this pm to see the opticien to try out contact lenses for the first time. It's a really strange feeling having something on your eye and they did have to come out as I got baco up to Tignes and felt a bit nauseated even, who knew that would happen? Suffice to say we're not quite friends yet but I've got a few days to try and then to decide with the optician if this is the way to go. Now it's off to bed as I'm going skiing in the morning before work.

Sunny on the motte

Great conditions on the glacier today, sunny, fresh weather and hard packed snow. Tignes showing itself from its good side

Glacier opening

I did sleep in a bit this morning and wasn't at the funi hours ago when it really opened but figured today is more about getting my skiing legs back after a month's break and not about hours of training - which is what the 2 coming weeks before Hintertux is going to be.
Raining in top but better snow conditions than this summer.

Pretty morning
