First snow

Image
Woke up today to see the mountain tops covered in snow and just a little bit later it started snowing in resort as well.. Nothing's staying on the ground yet though, we are still in august after all!

First snow is forecasted for Thu night - Fri morning!

VTT - mountainbiking

Image
Went downhill mountainbiking today for the first time ever, probably about time since this is my third summer here. Got a bike out from the shop and then Ross and I went to le lac to get palafour up to the top. We went down both the green runs, easyride and smoothie. It was fun to try but I didn't get "bitten" by it, so don't regret not having tried it earlier. A well deserved ice cream was had afterwards to help cool us down a bit, with all the gear it gets quite warm!

Heatwave

We've had a heatwave here the past few days and yesterday after skiing I met up with some friends in lavachet as it was james' birthday and we ended up at Scotty's pool, I got to borrow a bikini from Lena who lives nearby and we spent the whole afternoon in the sun and the pool. Don't think I've done that since last year in turkey. Yesterday the temp at 3000m was 18 degrees so it was around 30 at 2000, vc is at 2100.

Training

Image
Went up to the motte again today to get some turns in, practiced mostly all the ski school turns and my vertical movement. It was sunny today at least, but that meant you could see how bad it really is as well. Went back down quite early as it got too hot and watery on the slope to actually slide properly.

Day out

Image
So the rest of the day continued in the same spirit as it started, had a nice walk with Megan which was followed by a visit to the driving range. Quite tired now, but in a good way. This is what was happening on the lake as we went past.

Skiing

Image
Since I was motivated last night I decided that I would go skiing today, no matter what the weather was like, as long as the lifts were open. And so I did, the snow was terrible, in the places where there actually was snow, other than that it was skiing on either crushed ice or water. So I did a few runs practicing the things I need to work on before October and then when it started getting a bit too wet I decided to call it quits. It was really good to ski anyway though, skiing is fun even in bad conditions! so I've still got a goofy smile on my face!

And the trailer video that I took a few months ago....

Just because it's quite impressive, even to me, who is not interested in these sort of things otherwise.

Fireworks

Image
Because tomorrow is a national holiday here in France, the assumption, there was a big fireworks display over the lac this evening, however I will still be working tomorrow, as you do when you are a seasonaire... We could see it all from our balcony which was nice.

Long break

Image
I know I've had quite a long break from updating the blog, I've had lots to think about and lots going on, so haven't had the time or the inspiration to write something here for a while.

I do have some news now though, I've today sent in my declaration as an auto-entrepreneur here in France, meaning self-employed, to be able to do graphic design and image manipulation for other people. Right now I'm in the process of working on my (free) website, I decided to not yet go all out, getting a proper domain name and the whole shabang, but a wix website, which is free and does let me have a page online that is easy to update. Hopefully I'll finish that in a day or so. My business card is also almost done and will afterwards be sent to a printer. My logo is done, I got some help from Phil with tips and pointers. And this is what I decided on going with in the end, after going back and forth a lot. I decided that even though it may be slightly off balance, I like it!
