Psi3

So after a few days of training it was finally time for the re-exam this afternoon. Visibility was really poor - today was a proper whiteout! But got through it and am now very happy and proud to have passed my psi3 which means I can get an equivalence and teach in France, will take some time for papers to get through but in any case it will be good for next season which was the goal! Yay!

Off piste morning

I've mostly skied off piste with the Danish for my technical course this week and today wasn't an exception, finally some good weather and a bit of fresh snow. We did the familiale, and then down through the trees to La daille, we did the tour of the charvet and the kunai and some more.. Here's a photo, and hopefully I'll get some video from the other guys later!

X games week

So x games finished on friday and we had a good week, very busy but fun. Hsd different working hours and shifts every day and had good views of some slopestyle and pipe finals. Met some cool people and ate great food at the diva. Quite tired now afterwards, especially as I went straight back to work for the weekend.
Now onto next week - friends visiting, bumps and off piste course with the Danish and essay writing.

X games

X games week starting tomorrow and have just this evening had our first brief and gotten the uniforms. They're a bit different this year as it's wedze and not quicksilver, so we'll see how they are once we've worn them for a bit. Tomorrow we've got another briefing and then I start properly on Tuesday as an event hostess. Looking forward to a week with a bit different stuff and we also get to eat at the diva which is nice! Ross is starting with the skidoos tomorrow as well.

Ice Skating

We meet up with some friends for a late birthday celebration last night. We started out at the ice skating rink on the lake. For the Thursday night ice skating disco the skates are free, but as we showed up quite late we ended up with some quite old skates - mine even had a heel! I haven't skated in years and used to have proper ice hockey skates so I was a bit wobbly at the start but it got better towards the end. We definitely have to go again before the season is over!

Cranberry Bliss Cupcakes

I did go out skiing for a bit today and practiced long turns but after my face started to feel quite beaten up by the wind and the cold I headed back home for some studying and baking. So far more baking than studying's been done... I guess I've found a new way of procrastinating.
I've now done two sets of rolls, one of which is going in the freezer as emergency bread - for when we've forgotten to bake new bread, and the masterpiece of the day - Cranberry Bliss Cupcakes.
The base is a simple cupcake that you then cut out a part of, fill with a cranberry sauce and then make a white chocolate ganache frosting to put on top. Below is the recipe I used from this page - I have converted some measures to metric, changed the way the butter is melted, halved the frosting mix (half is more than enough), and of course no pecan nuts in any of my cupcakes! The recipe and process looks really time consuming but if you've got the cranberry sauce already it is really quite quick!

Carrot & Sweet Potato soup

I had decided when I went shopping last that I would make this soup and today was the day.
Below is the recipe I used

Curried carrot, Sweet Potato and  Ginger soup

Ingredients
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1/2 cup chopped shallots
3 cups cubed peeled sweet potato
1 1/2 cups sliced peeled carrots
1 tablespoon grated ginger (or a bit smaller amout on dried ginger)
2 teaspoons curry powder
3 cups chicken broth (or 3 cups of water and 2 stock cubes)
1/2 teaspoon of salt


Preparation
Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add shallots; saute 3 minutes or until tender. Add potato, carrots, ginger, and curry; cook 2 minutes. Add broth; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 25 minutes or until vegetables are tender; stir in salt.
Pour half of soup in a food processor; pulse until smooth. Repeat procedure with remaining soup, or use hand mixer
It got quite thick and spicy (maybe because I used hot curry powder) so I put some creme fraiche in it before serving as well and I'm sure you…

Les trois vallées

We went to Meribel yesterday for some skiing with Dean and Helen as they are out for the week. We arrived mid morning in Meribel and then skied through to meet up with the others in Courchevel, we skied through les menuires and Val thorens as well so covered a lot of ground and resorts in one day. We had lunch out in the sun, a drink after skiing followed by a lovely dinner in the chalet they were staying. So we had a great day all in all, Ross finally got some more time on the snow and it was great to ski somewhere else for a bit.

Instructing courses booked

I've now booked myself onto a technical course (bumps & off piste) in Tignes, Easter week, hopefully with a possibility of doing a re-exam for my PSI3 qualification and, I've booked myself onto the PSI3 continuing course in Hintertux at the start of May, just in case the re-exam in March for some reason doesn't work out. The final date for booking is at the end of this week... So now it's back to training bumps, snow plow, shorts, longs and some more...

It's Parisian week this week, and lots of people on the slopes, and there were some little rocks as well - turned my skis in for a service at the shop today - one benefit of working as a skiwoman is getting free ski service! Forecast for tomorrow is light snow, which we could definitely use but will see what happens, you never know in the mountains! If it is then I'll be on the flats training ski school turns.
