So much to do, so little time

My lack of posting has been due to everything that's been going on. We're running a bit late on the flat and so we've moved to yet another temporary accommodation for a couple of weeks. We've even decided to delay a couple of things in the flat til later in the season or even next spring.
Hopefully I'll get back to some more posting once things have calmed down a bit but it's going to be a couple of more intense weeks of buildinh first!

More and more renovation work

It's not exactly getting any less stressful as we're approaching winter. Especially since there's a blizzard outside.
Gavin has now started plastering the walls and ceilings so the place is looking more and more finished at least and this weekend I've been able to finish them two brick walls.
I also ordered myself a handlettering book for beginners and a set of pens that arrived this week and I've started working a bit in it in the evenings. Quite a challenge but really enjoying it so far.

More renovation photos

Until winter's here this is all we're up to add the moment, apart from normal work of course.

Covered in insulation dust

It's been very busy over the last couple of weeks working in the flat on both weekends and week nights. So there's been not been much fun to report on. We are getting close to winter so trying to get everything sorted and if we keep a good pace, it should hopefully work out! Insulation is thankfully nearly done, I've finished one of the brick walls and all the plasterboard should be up this week. Fingers crossed we don't run into any more hickups.

But, there was something at least news worthy today - the tour de france stages were revealed at a press conference in Paris and La Rosière and Bourg St Maurice got a stage each! Very exciting for next summer. And as they annonced the la Rosière stage, yours truly got a cameo as one of Propaganda's photos from this winter was used to present the resort. That's me there on the right side waving with my then claw hand in Ross' way too big glove!

Weekend in Gothenburg

Last weekend I went to Gothenburg for my mother's birthday present weekend with all of us kids. I flew in in the Friday evening and me and my mother had an evening together before the others arrived on Saturday morning. Then we took the boat out to Styrsö for lunch where we had a delicious lunch, conveniently just as a rain shower hit.

After which we headed back into the city for a stroll around town, some shopping and a relax at the hotel. We stayed at the Clarion Post Hotel which was amazing. Great rooms, decor, design and breakfast!
For Saturday evening we had a dinner reservation at TOSO. As I found out after there's usually a wait of about a month to get a table, but luckily my sister had found out about this gem way in advance! The dinner consisted of a lot of little meals to share. All of which were delicious but if I had to pick a favourite it was probably the crispy pork.

On Sunday mornign, we had some more time for shopping and my father came to join so that we got a…

2nd Anniversary

There's not been a proper holiday this year yet because of the building work but we did manage to get away for a night for our anniversary this Tuesday. We set off early in the morning to make it to the thermal spa in Pré Saint Didier where we spent the whole morning and a good part of the afternoon. Very relaxing which was exactly what we needed. Then we headed to Courmayeur where we'd booked a hotel for the night, we strolled around town, did a bit of shopping and had gelato. In the evening we managed to both eat a "first" course and a pizza. For those not in the know, a first course comes after the starter and is normally a slightly smaller portion than a main, although very often it is the size of a main dish too! Very much enjoyed the ravioli, diavola pizza and the prosecco. In the morning it was time to start heading back to France and work but not before enjoying a great hotel buffet breakfast and a stop at a local supermarket for pasta and lemon soda.

Felt a bit like Christmas last week when we got another delivery of light switches and dimmers, light bulbs, door handles, pull bars and locks. And Buster+Punch have also changed their packaging which now looks even better. Thumbs up for making cardboard look amazing and for all the little details like the envelopes and laser cut foam.
Had to take a couple of quick pics of course. Can't wait until we get to a part in the renovation where we actually get to put all of it up! We did at least get another 2 walls up yesterday and today I did started painting our bedroom doorway matte black. Completely forgot to take pictures inside the apartment though so there'll have to be an update on that next week instead.

Yet another building work update

As you can probably tell, not much is happening here apart from normal work and building work.
The renovation is slowly moving forward, we had a bit of a setback this week as we discovered the upstairs neighbour's water is coming into our flat through what looks like a broken pipe in our ceiling/their floor - so inside the building structure.. Hmmpf. More on that as it develops I guess. But that meant we had to even take some of the new wall that we've put up out. On the upside at least it didn't happen after it had all been plastered and painted. But it does also mean we can't really work too much on the wall frames we need to get up for the new bathroom which is slightly frustrating.

We've still managed to get up some more plasterboard and insulation making the place very warm to work in, especially given that it's been quite warm here to start. And luckily for me Ross has had help carrying all the plasterboards up the 4 flights of stairs from Brice, Ben and …

Double birthday

Ross and I traveled to Sweden via Copenhagen this weekend to celebrate my mother's 70th and my grand father's 95th birthdays. Since we travelled into Copenhagen on Thursday evening we met up at Bakken amusement park on Friday to enjoy some rollercoasters before heading to Torekov. We all had a great time and got lucky with the rain only starting just before we were leaving. On the Saturday the whole family met up at Torekovs golf club for drinks and early dinner before spending the evening out in the back garden. You forget for how long it stays light and how early the sun comes up in Sweden in the summer!
The weekend of course also brought this year's first 2 swims in the ocean. We even had to take 2 cars down there in the morning to fit everyone! And then of course lots of playtime with the nephews, games of kubb and skipbo and even a run in the rain. All in all we managed to fit so many things into the weekend and had a great time catching up with everyone. Quite tired …

We got some new metal framing and doors up this weekend. The new rooms are starting to take shape and it's getting easier and easier to visualise the end result.

Halfway there

New windows have been brought up and are in the process of being installed.
Finally looks and feels like things are moving forward again.

New windows

So it's been a while since the last update, mainly because building work has been a bit on hold as we've been waiting for our windows to arrive and because my phone stopped working so had to order a new one. The time in between was probably a good phone detox time as it was too frustrating to even try to use my old phone for anything but a simple message! Anyway, windows finally arrived today and the old ones have been taken out! It's not too hard to spot which one is ours at the moment with the OSB covering the gigantic holes in the wall.

Light switches

Some of our light switches arrived yesterday, very exciting to see something that will actually be a part of the finish of the apartment! And of course we didn't settle on just normal light switches either! It's all in the details.

We also had our parents take advantage of a sample sale in Stockholm last week,as they happened to visit on the same day, so we got some light fittings in the same style that we'll pick up when we go back for a quick visit in July.

Building and a quick visit to Italy

So, much like the past couple of weeks all free time has been spent working in the flat. Some more walls structures have come up and we've started pulling the cables. We do need the windows to come soon though as its starting to hold us up a bit. We did also manage to squeeze in a dinner in Italy last week and a walk around the lake today which was very nice! Just to get a little bit of a break too!

Finally building

We're making the most of the long weekend this week by putting in lots of hours at the apartment. The first day we managed to finally get everything out (including using a crowbar to pry the original carpet up) which meant that we could finally start the building phase. So metal rails have since then been put up and some insulation have started going in for two of the walls. And the wall got tagged in the process ;-)
